22 Jan On My Nightstand – December 2020 Book List
Somehow I was able to fit a lot of reading time into a very busy time of year. Perhaps it was due to the multiple snow days we had? Who knows!
The Way of the Superior Man, was certainly the most profound, impactful, and important book that I read in December (top 5 of the year.) As potentially sexist or politically-incorrect as the title may seem, it is an incredible compassionate, gender-sensitive, relationship-positive book. Coming from an Evangelical background, the book may be a bit ‘new age-y’ for some, but I promise you–this book could change your life and/or your relationships. The book has countless recommendations so you don’t have to take my word for it.
Second-favorite book of the month was Barack Obama’s latest book, A Promised Land. Published as Volume I of II, the 750-page memoir takes you through much of Obama’s earlier political career through to his first three years as president. Although I am quite open with my conservative political views, Obama has always been a leader I have admired and this book cemented that opinion. The former president’s attitude and personality are absolutely endearing, and his writing is nothing short of remarkable. Considered by many to be the most gifted writer of American presidents, his narration is smooth and approachable but with an educated and enlightened air. I recommend presidential memoirs to everyone regardless of party affiliation–it’s a window into the lives of some of the most important and influential individuals of the modern world.
